REAL ID Requirements

Beginning May 7, 2025, all individuals over the age of 18 who are authorized to drive onto Arlington National Cemetery should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security checkpoint.

Columbia Pike Closure

January 12, 2023

ARLINGTON, VA—Arlington National Cemetery (ANC), in conjunction with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District, the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), announces that a portion of VA-244 Columbia Pike—between South Joyce Street and the VDOT facility located immediately east of South Oak Street—will be closed beginning January 23, 2023. The closure is due to ongoing construction as part of the cemetery’s Southern Expansion project.


Annual Wreaths Out Event: Saturday, January 21

ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery (SAHNC) in Washington, D.C. will hold their annual removal of wreaths, known as Wreaths Out, on Saturday, January 21, beginning at 8 a.m. Thousands of visitors are expected to help remove approximately 257,000 wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery and approximately 14,000 at SAHNC. The high volume of visitors at ANC may create traffic congestion and delays on nearby streets and at the cemetery’s entrances.

Wreaths Across America Family Pass Holder Day: Sunday, December 11

ARLINGTON, VA – On Sunday, Dec. 11, the annual Wreaths Across America (WAA) Family Pass Holder Day will be held at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and the Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery (SAHNC). From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., family pass holders are invited to place a wreath at their loved one’s grave ahead of the National Wreaths Across America Day.


Wreaths Across America Event, Saturday, December 17

ARLINGTON, VA – On Saturday, Dec. 17, the annual Wreaths Across America (WAA) event will be held at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and the Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery (SAHNC). ANC will open to visitors at 8 a.m., and SAHNC will open at noon.


National Veterans Day Observance

WASHINGTON—The 69th annual National Veterans Day Observance, honoring the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. armed forces during war and peacetime, will take place on Friday, November 11 at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC). Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Reopening of Historic Ord and Weitzel Gate

ARLINGTON, VA—At noon on November 8, 2022, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of Ord and Weitzel Gate, the historic north entrance to the cemetery. ANC, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Maverick Regan Construction, Lorton Stone, WSP and Speweik Preservation Consultants undertook an extensive multi-year effort to restore the gate and its signature columns, topped with elaborately sculpted urns.   


November History Talks

October 31, 2022

This November, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC)’s official historians will present a series of interpretive talks. Open to the general public and ANC staff, these talks will last approximately 20 minutes each. Registration is not required.

Wreaths Across America Family Pass Holder Day

On Sunday, December 11, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., we invite family pass holders to Arlington National Cemetery for Wreaths Across America Family Pass Holder Day. No registration is necessary, but both pedestrian and driving family pass holders must have an official ANC family pass to receive a wreath to place. Photocopies of family passes will not be accepted.
