REAL ID Requirements

Beginning May 7, 2025, all individuals over the age of 18 who are authorized to drive onto Arlington National Cemetery should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security checkpoint.

Traffic Pattern Changes Around Arlington National Cemetery

On or around April 17, 2023, several traffic pattern changes and detours will take place on the roads surrounding the construction supporting Arlington National Cemetery’s Southern Expansion project. The public can expect to see the following changes:

Arlington National Cemetery Announces Second Flowers of Remembrance Day

ARLINGTON, VA—Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) is honored to announce the second Flowers of Remembrance Day, to be held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Sunday, May 28, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Members of the public are invited to place a flower at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier


Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall to Host Annual Easter Sunrise Service

The annual National Military Easter Sunrise Service will be held Sunday, April 9 at Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater and hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Commander Col. David D. Bowling. The service, which will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., will also be live streamed on the joint base Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jbmhh.  


ANC Starts Interagency and Public Consultation Process for Removal of the Confederate Memorial

As required by Congress and implemented by the Secretary of Defense, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) is required to remove the Confederate Memorial at ANC and has initiated a process to prepare for the careful removal and relocation of its Confederate Memorial, located in Section 16 of the cemetery. All bronze elements of the memorial will be relocated.  


Memorial Bridge and Circle Closure, Sat. March 18

March 17, 2023

From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Sat. March 18, Memorial Bridge and Circle will be closed due to a half-marathon. This will impact all traffic coming to Arlington National Cemetery’s main entrance.

Webinar: “A Legacy of Remembrance”

On Monday, March 6, at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) will be partnering with the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) and the National WWI Museum and Memorial to present a live webinar on the history of American commemorative practices.


“Remember the Maine”: 125th Anniversary Discussion

January 26, 2023

On Wednesday, February 15 at 1 p.m., an online panel of historians and archivists will discuss the sinking of the USS Maine, a battleship built between 1888 and 1895, which was sent to Havana in January 1898 to protect American interests during the longstanding revolt of the Cubans against the colonial Spanish government. On the evening of February 15, 1898, the Maine sank when its forward gunpowder magazines exploded. Nearly three-quarters of the battleship's crew died as a result of the explosion. While the cause of this great tragedy is still unsettled, contemporary American popular opinion blamed Spain, and the Spanish-American War followed within a few months.


Arlington National Cemetery Renews Level III Arboretum Status
