REAL ID Requirements

Beginning May 7, 2025, all individuals over the age of 18 who are authorized to drive onto Arlington National Cemetery should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security checkpoint.

Fall Arboretum Walking Tours

All tours will meet at the ANC Welcome Center Information Desk. Wear sturdy shoes and consider bringing a bottle of water. All tours are open to the public. We hope you can make it to one or more! Tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather. 


Southgate Road Construction

October 04, 2022

Through Friday, October 28, there will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Southgate Road, between South Oak Street and South Joyce Street. Underground utilities are being installed along Southgate Road, as part of the Defense Access Road (DAR) construction project.


Road Closure Update

September 21, 2022

The construction project on McPherson Drive, Lawton Drive, McKinley Drive, Jackson Circle, Chapel Gate Road, Capron Drive, Hobson Drive and Miles Drive — affecting Sections 3, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23 and 44 — will continue through fall 2023 as currently projected.

Women’s Equality Day Tour of Arlington National Cemetery

In honor of Women’s Equality Day on Friday, August 26, join Arlington National Cemetery’s (ANC) official historians for a public walking tour highlighting women’s lives and legacies at ANC. Visitors will learn about the pathbreaking women buried and memorialized here, as well as women who impacted the cemetery’s development. The tour will reveal how these women broke gender barriers, served their nation, created new roles for women in military and civic life, and contributed to the ongoing struggle for women’s equality.


Air Force Memorial Will Be Closed to Spectators on Independence Day

ARLINGTON, VA— Arlington National Cemetery (ANC), in collaboration with the Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), announced today they will close public access to the Southern Expansion portion of Arlington National Cemetery, which includes access to the Air Force Memorial, on July 4. The memorial will reopen to the public on July 5.

Southern Expansion Update

On April 6, pile driving work on the retaining wall construction will begin at the easternmost section closest to Joyce Street. Work will continue on Thursday, April 7 and Monday, April 11. There will be no pile driving work on Friday, April 8. Work will take place from daylight through dusk. 


Easter Sunrise Service, April 17

The annual Easter Sunrise Service held at Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater will once again be held in person Sunday, April 17, hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Commander Col. David D. Bowling. Due to the pandemic, the service was held virtually the past two years and will be live-streamed this year as well via Facebook at www.facebook.com/jbmhh/. The Easter Sunrise Service is a non-denominational worship service and begins with a prelude by the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” at 6:15 a.m.
