On Saturday, June 15, the Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) History Office and Horticulture are hosting a special public tram tour in honor of the 160th anniversary of ANC becoming a national cemetery. The tram tour will depart at 9:30 a.m. and will last approximately two hours.
The tour will explore how ANC has evolved and expanded over its 160 years of existence. ANC’s historians and horticulturists will take visitors on a tram tour throughout the cemetery to trace the changes that have transformed this hillside property into a deeply symbolic landscape of memory. Along the way, visitors will learn about many of the memorials, graves, historic structures, plants, gardens and landscape features in the cemetery. The tour will include several stops where visitors will exit the tram and walk through sections of the cemetery.
• This tour is free and open to the public, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Click here to register.
• Those interested in attending will meet in the ANC Welcome Center at 9:15 a.m.
• Since this tram tour will include several walking stops across uneven terrain, please wear comfortable walking shoes. It will be held rain or shine; please dress appropriately for weather conditions. Be sure to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and wear a hat!
