Memorial Arboretum History and Horticulture Walking Tour

Join ANMC historians and horticulturists for a special walking tour. The tour will show visitors how Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Arboretum honors the history of our nation’s service members. It will also highlight how trees, plants and landscaping elements add another layer of meaning to the graves and memorials throughout the cemetery. Stops include key sites, including the Kennedy family gravesites, Tanner Amphitheater and the grounds around Memorial Amphitheater.

This tour is free and open to the public; no registration required.

Meet in the ANC Welcome Center; the tour departs promptly at 9 a.m.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the tour will include walking across uneven terrain.

The tour will be held rain or shine - please dress for the weather and bring water!

On this tour, you will explore the cemetery's Level III Arboretum and gain insight into ANC’s urban forestry program, extensive tree collection and state champion trees. Learn about our robust horticulture practices and the variety of techniques used to create some of the most breathtaking formal and informal landscapes and gardens.

Plant Health Care Walking Tour

Sustainable Landscapes Walking Tour

Join us for a walking tour co-led by our horticulturist and environmental specialist.
Together, we will walk the historic grounds, exploring the cemetery's "working landscapes” including our beautiful, active rain gardens. You'll discover how these carefully designed native plant sanctuaries protect the local watershed by naturally filtering stormwater before it reaches the Potomac River.
This tour offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at how we keep these sacred grounds beautiful and green for generations to come.
