A fully operational national cemetery since May 1864, Arlington National Cemetery conducts an average of 27 funerals each workday--final farewells to fallen heroes from the fronts of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as to veterans of World War II, the Korean conflict, Vietnam and the Cold War and their family members.

For the first time in its history, Arlington National Cemetery is scheduling funeral services on Saturdays to improve service for our veterans and their families. Currently, Saturday services are for interments and inurnments of cremated remains that do not require military honors.

Exactly one year after an investigation directed by Secretary of the Army John McHugh reported breakdowns in accountability and record-keeping at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC), the new management team put in place by McHugh today released a list of achievements put in place over the last 12 months that have strengthened the cemetery’s management and oversight.
