Information regarding upcoming Memorial Ave demonstration

The National Park Service has issued a demonstration permit to an organization that has requested participants bring toy guns as part of the demonstration. This demonstration will not occur within Arlington National Cemetery, and the Department of the Army is not affiliated or involved with this demonstration. However, we are aware that participants may choose to park in the Cemetery's public parking garage. Arlington National Cemetery wishes to remind the public that demonstrations are prohibited within the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, including carrying signs and/or banners that are visible. Additionally, weapons of any type, including firearms, are prohibited on Arlington National Cemetery property to include the public parking garage.

Staying Safe in Summertime Heat

High pressure and humidity often drives our weather during the summer months in the Washington DC metropolitan area, temperatures can range from the low 80's to the upper triple digits. Often there is a chance for scattered afternoon thundershowers. As you visit Arlington National Cemetery please keep in mind that many of the sites require uphill walking which can be exhausting. Please ensure you are well hydrated and if possible begin your tour during the early morning hours or late afternoon prior to cemetery closing to avoid the midday high temperatures. Take frequent rest and water breaks to avoid overheating and If you notice anyone suffering from a heat related illness contact 911 immediately. As a reminder bottled Water can be purchased at The Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA), and water fountains are also located throughout the cemetery grounds.

Free event: George Mason University to present findings on research project about Arlington National Cemetery

George Mason University students will present their findings as part of the research project, "The Cultures of Work at Arlington National Cemetery," on June 19 at 2 p.m. in the theater of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. The event is free and open to the public.
