Road Closures near Arlington National Cemetery, Oct. 12, 2014

The Army 10-miler is taking place Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014. The run begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Pentagon parking lots and returns to the Pentagon via the I-395 HOV lanes.


Sidewalk Construction near Parking Garage

Construction is ongoing for the sidewalks on the east side of the Welcome Center adjacent to the parking garage. Please be cautious as the construction has created an alternate pedestrian path that uses one lane of the road. This alternate route also limits vehicle traffic to one lane entering the garage. This adjusted traffic pattern will last until approximately Oct. 10, including the weekend. The construction will take place at night.

The inaugural Tour de Cure D.C. is taking place Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014.  Two thousand bicyclists will cross Memorial Bridge, travel around Memorial Circle, and then re-cross Memorial Bridge.

Construction at President John F. Kennedy gravesite

The Eternal Flame at the gravesite for President John F. Kennedy is undergoing construction as the cemetery upgrades the drainage system. From Sept. 25-Sept. 29, visitors will see fencing to cordon off the work area. The flame and the markers for the president and his family will remain visible during this process.

Special Exhibit: Section 60 Memorial Collection

From Sept. 11 through Nov. 7, 2014, Arlington National Cemetery will be hosting a special exhibit to display a small sampling of the items left in Section 60 to honor service members who died in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of a special memento preservation mission. The display will also provide some context for America's response to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Section 60 Memorial Collection. The exhibit is located in the lower level of the Memorial Amphitheater and will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until Sept. 30 and starting on Oct. 1, the exhibit will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The Navy-Air Force Half Marathon and Navy 5-Miler will take place in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014.  More than 6,000 runners will cross Memorial Bridge, run around Memorial Circle, then run back across Memorial Bridge.  There will be a water stations and medical support on Memorial Circle.


Turf renovations underway at Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington is renovating turf in sections 4, 43, and 69 Arlington National Cemetery completely renovates more than 30 acres of turf each year, which includes removing the old turf, tilling the soil and planting new turf from seed. Each year the maintenance crews work on a rotating basis, renovating different sections as needed. This fall, crews are doing turf renovations in sections 4, 43, and 69. Right now and continuing for the next several weeks, you will notice signs in these sections/areas where work is being completed. Unless you are visiting a particular grave in a section, we ask that you please refrain from excessive walking on these areas when possible.

Planned Website and ANC Explorer Outage

There will be a planned application outage for the Arlington National Cemetery website and ANC Explorer application on Saturday, Aug. 23, starting at 8 p.m. EDT. This outage will affect portions of the ANC website, including Find a Grave, the Funeral Schedule and all of ANC Explorer. We do not expect the outage to continue past 10 p.m. EDT.
