Easter Sunrise Service to take place April 16

The annual Easter Sunrise Service, hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Commander Col. Patrick M. Duggan, at Arlington National Cemetery's Memorial Amphitheater will take place April 16. Prelude music performed by The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," will start at 6:15 a.m.

The non-denominational worship service will begin with a call to worship at 6:30 a.m. Seating is available on a first-com, first-served basis. Memorial Ave. and Old Post Chapel gates will open at 5 a.m.

The Easter message will be delivered by Chap. (Rear Adm.) Margaret Grun Kibben, U.S. Navy Chief of Chaplains.

Accessing Arlington National Cemetery

  • Enter Arlington National Cemetery and park at the cemetery's Welcome Center parking lot. Parking is free from 5 to 9 a.m., Easter Sunday.

  • For DOD ID card holders only: Enter Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and park in the Tri-Services parking lot (the large lot closest to the Old Post Chapel).

  • METRO service does not begin until 7 a.m. on weekends.

NOTE: Guests without DOD IDs must park at the cemetery's Welcome Center parking lot.

There is no walking to the amphitheater from the Welcome Center or joint base; a free shuttle will transport all guests. Shuttles will transport guests back to the parking lots after the service; guests will also have the option of walking back to their parked vehicles after the service.

We urge everyone to allow additional time to go through security screening when visiting the cemetery, especially large groups. We recommend visitors bring minimal to no bags to expedite the screening process. Blankets, baby strollers and water in clear, plastic bottles are allowed.
