Request for Nominations: Advisory Committee on Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery is currently seeking nominations for appointments to the Advisory Committee on Arlington National Cemetery (ACANC).

The ACANC is an independent Federal Advisory Committee chartered to provide the Secretary of Defense, through the Secretary of the Army, independent advice and recommendations on ANC, including, but not limited to cemetery administration, the erection of memorials at the cemetery and master planning for the cemetery.


Important Update: Air Force Memorial Closure Due to Southern Expansion Project

Arlington National Cemetery is sharing additional details regarding ongoing work at the Southern Expansion Project site near the Air Force Memorial.

To ensure visitor safety during this key phase of construction, the Air Force Memorial will be temporarily closed beginning Sunday, June 15th, and will reopen on or about Thursday, July 26th, 2025. During this time, the main entrance to the Air Force Memorial will be inaccessible.

The 157th National Memorial Day Observance, recognizing and commemorating the fallen men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, is scheduled for Monday, May 26, 2025, at 11 a.m., in the Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia.


REAL ID Requirements for Those Authorized to Drive onto Arlington National Cemetery

April 29, 2025

Beginning May 7, 2025, all individuals over the age of 18 who enter Arlington National Cemetery in a vehicle should be prepared to present a REAL ID at the security check point. This applies to funeral attendees, family pass holders, honor flights, contractors who do not possess a Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) or an Automated Installation (AIE) badge, family-hired photographers and florists who drive into the cemetery via Memorial Avenue, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall or the Service Complex Gate.   


Arlington National Cemetery Announces Fourth Flowers of Remembrance Day

Section 78 Update

Lecture, May 4: The Pioneering Nurses of the Spanish-American War

On Sunday, May 4, the Arlington National Cemetery History Office and Education team will present a lecture at the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM) on the pioneering nurses of the Spanish-American War. This special event in honors National Nurses Month commemorated each May. Presenters include Steve Carney, Allison Finkelstein and Emily Rheault.
