Memorial Avenue Construction

9/7/2023

From Sept. 7 through Oct. 10, 2023, Arlington National Cemetery is undertaking a construction project on Memorial Avenue, its main roadway entrance for visitors and families. The project, which will include milling, paving and traffic enhancement, will improve traffic flow for both pedestrians and motorists.

Construction work will take place at night, from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. Two-way traffic operations will be maintained during the day (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.), but unauthorized motorists will be prohibited from parking on the ANC-owned segment of Memorial Avenue.

Construction will impact pedestrian movement across Memorial Avenue, including daytime usage of ANC’s main crosswalk (located directly in front of the Welcome Center):

  • Sept. 7 through Sept. 15: Upon approaching the ramps on either side of Memorial Avenue, pedestrians will encounter a slight but guided diversion around the main crosswalk.

  • Sept. 18 through Oct. 10: Detour signs will guide pedestrians to use the crosswalk adjacent to the Arlington Cemetery Metro station, instead of the main crosswalk in front of ANC.

ANC is actively monitoring the construction site in order to mitigate any further impact to the visitor experience.  We appreciate the understanding of both pedestrians and motorists during this temporary but necessary inconvenience.
