Changing of the Guard: Seasonal Schedule

From Oct. 1 through March 31, the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier takes place once an hour, on the hour. Guard changes at 30-minute intervals will resume in April.

Come enjoy the cemetery's springtime beauty—and learn about ANC's robust Horticulture program! 

Below is the schedule for Arlington National Cemetery's Spring Arboretum Walking Tours. All tours will meet at the ANC Welcome Center Information Desk. Please wear sturdy shoes and consider bringing a bottle of water. Tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

All tours are free and open to the public; no registration is required. We hope you can make it to one or more!


Memorial Arboretum Spring Plant TourSpring Arrives Early!

Friday, March 31, 2023, 9 a.m.

Bask in the cemetery’s springtime beauty as we meander through the Memorial Arboretum grounds. On this tour, you will learn about the cemetery’s diverse collection of flowering shrubs and perennials. The cemetery’s Horticulturist will explain how to identify and grow these spring blooming treasures.

Friday, April 14, 2023, 9 a.m.–11 a.m.

Come see the trees of Arlington at the peak of their spring splendor! The vibrant red, yellow and pink blooms of over 300 species of trees at ANC are a must-see for anyone visiting in the spring.

On this tour, you will learn about the cemetery's Memorial Arboretum, a Level III Accredited Arboretum. You will also gain insights into the urban forestry program, extensive tree collection and State Champion trees—as well as ANC’s overall Horticulture program and the techniques used to create the cemetery’s breathtaking formal and informal landscapes and gardens.

Friday, April 21, 2023, 9 a.m. 

To celebrate Earth Day, get inspired by the many native plants, rain garden plantings and tough urban trees that enhance the ANC Memorial Arboretum. Participants will learn first-hand about some of our easy-to-maintain and wildlife supporting plants and gain insights into our rain gardens and urban-tolerant trees.


Memorial Arboretum Walking Tour: Arbor Day

Friday, April 28, 2023, 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m.

On Arbor Day, come see the trees of Arlington at the peak of their spring splendor! Walk ANC’s arboretum grounds with our Urban Forester and Horticulturist. On this tour, we will explore the magnificent trees and shrubs of  the cemetery’s Memorial Arboretum, a Level III Accredited Arboretum.

Participants will gain insights into ANC’s urban forestry program and extensive tree and shrub collection. We will also focus on our diverse perennial plantings and sustainable landscapes trees—as well as ANC’s overall Horticulture program and the techniques used to create the cemetery’s breathtaking formal and informal landscapes and gardens.
