New Columbia Pike Pedestrian Path & Route 27 Ramps Open

Arlington National Cemetery is excited to announce the partial opening of a new bike path and sidewalks along Columbia Pike. The Route 27 on and off ramps are scheduled to reopen for vehicle on or about Monday, Aug. 31. These updates mark a key milestone in the ongoing Southern Expansion project.

Construction for the Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) Southern Expansion Project will close roads inside the cemetery near the Service Complex Gate from approximately Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Nov. 2026.


Turf Renovations: July 15–Oct. 15

Army National Military Cemeteries (ANMC) renovates approximately 30 acres of turf each year. The process involves removing the old turf, adding soil amendments, tilling and regrading the gravesites and sowing new grass seed.

Air Force Memorial Closure and Traffic Impacts for July 4, 2026

On Saturday, July 4, road and site closures around Arlington National Cemetery will affect visitors and family pass holders. Expect significant delays areawide, especially before and after the fireworks.


Road Closures Within ANC Due to Ongoing Construction Project

An ongoing, multi-phase road construction project will affect vehicle traffic in Arlington National Cemetery through March 2027. Please refer to the map above for details on the project phases.


Traffic Advisory: June 12–14

Visitors to Arlington National Cemetery may experience significant traffic delays and congestion from Friday, June 12, through Sunday, June 14, 2026, due to special events taking place on and around the National Mall. 


May 30: Armed Forces Cycling Classic Road Closures

May 27, 2026

The Armed Forces Cycling Classic will take place on Saturday, May 30. Drivers to Arlington National Cemetery may experience the following traffic impacts from approximately 4 a.m. to noon:

  • Route 110 between Wilson Boulevard and Route 1 will be closed.

  • Vehicles leaving via Memorial Avenue cannot turn left onto Route 110 south.

  • Inbound traffic can access Memorial Avenue via the George Washington Parkway and Memorial Circle.

  • Pedestrians can still enter through the Ord & Weitzel Gate.


Adjusted Operating Hours on Memorial Day

In preparation for the Freedom 250 National Memorial Day Observance in Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater, ANC will stop admitting visitors and family pass holders at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 25. All visitors must exit the cemetery by 5 p.m. The cemetery will reopen at 6 p.m. for Freedom 250 event attendees.


May 24 Traffic Advisory: Rolling to Remember

May 20, 2026

Visitors planning to attend Flowers of Remembrance Day on Sunday, May 24 should be advised that the annual "Rolling to Remember" motorcycle ride will take place on the same day.  The motorcycle ride should not have a major effect on Flowers of Remembrance.

However, traffic in the area may be heavier than normal and certain roads will be closed – including Washington Boulevard from Pentagon North Parking to Memorial Circle and the exits off 395 N. into Pentagon Parking and Columbia Pike.
