Memorial Arboretum and Horticulture

White Oak Tree at ANCArlington National Cemetery is home to an extremely diverse and significant collection of trees and landscapes. The more than 8,600 trees are comprised of 300 varieties and species.

Some of the cemetery’s oldest trees pre-date the first burials and are nearly 250 years old.

In addition to three Virginia State Champion and two Virginia State Co-Champion trees, trees of particular interest include the 142 Memorial Trees, the Medal of Honor Historic Trees, as well as many magnificent specimen trees.

Over the history of the cemetery, many trees have been planted and dedicated by visiting dignitaries, family members, organizations and presidents.

The purpose of the Memorial Arboretum is to research, document and interpret the stories behind many of the trees at the cemetery.
